The site was originally built without following WordPress or common web development best practices. Making the editorial experience complicated, and adding new features took too long and cost too much money.
Further, the development and task management processes were not refined which contributed to the development cycle difficulty.
Ndevr reviewed the existing WordPress plugins and custom theme to create a clear set of tasks to rebuild the theme and admin interface to follow WordPress standards.
We also integrate a new set of tools to manage tasks using Trello and GitHub, This provided the transparency needed for the client to follow the the project cycle all the way through the production release.
Whatworkscities.bloomberg.org is now using a more stable theme and codebase. This has significantly decreased the time and budget needed to add new features without causing major regressions elsewhere on the site.
The new task management process was successful as well and we are further developing that process for other projects in the organization.
